Welcome Rain in New Mexico!!!! A cluster of thunderstorms moved slowly southeast out of east-central New Mexico during the overnight hours of July 22nd, 2009. The storms would eventually develop into a Mesoscale Convective System (MCS) with an embedded circulation that moved into western Texas during the morning hours of the 22nd. Rainfall totals exceeded four inches in parts of the Pecos River Valley resulting in flooding in the Artesia/Hagerman areas. Welcome rain also impacted western Texas with several mesonet stations exceeding two inches for the event.
