
An early season cold front pushed through the South Plains during the evening hours of September 21st, 2009. Severe wind gusts hit the Clovis (NM), Friona, Muleshoe, and Brownfield areas during the evening hours. A peak wind gust of 67 mph hit the Friona 2NE mesonet station at 6:20 pm CDT. Unseasonably cool temperatures in the 30's were recorded at many western WTM stations during the morning hours of the 22nd and 23rd. The WTM station 2 miles SSW of Muleshoe recorded low temperatures of 34 degrees on both mornings.
